Pneumothorax, however, was not present. Laparotomy revealed a large infiltrate in the left lower abdomen, which had penetrated the anterior abdominal wall. Microscopically, a recurrence of previously diagnosed vulval carcinoma was demonstrated. Despite intensive treatment the patient died two months later.
