Patient-reported outcome instruments (PROs) are questionnaires that measure concepts, like symptoms or health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and they are often used as endpoints in trials of therapies for patients with pulmonary diseases. When a patient's score on a PRO changes – whether from therapeutic intervention or a disease travelling its natural history – it is critical to know if patients perceive a change in status and if so, whether they consider it important [1].
